Answer if by richer you mean something like a mahogany or dark chocolate brown, where you have highlights the color will appear slightly lighter.
Since you are going richer having some of the color slightly lighter because of old highlights many times is a very pretty effect.
You are not going lighter so a deposit only semi permanent color would be the easiest and best way to color.
